THE EMPOWERMENT ZONE  BEGINS ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR THE

REGINALD OLIVER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

The scholarship has awarded deserving foster care youth since its inaugural year of 2014 honoring the Late Reginald Oliver, brother of The Empowerment Zone’s founder.

The Empowerment Zone, Inc., a West Orange, NJ based organization, will begin accepting applications for its 2021 program year aimed to benefit teens aging out of foster care.  The scholarship will award three $500 scholarships to aid with the purchase of books and other ancillary study materials.

The Reginald Oliver Memorial Scholarship is named after the Late Reginald Oliver who died in March of 2014.  Reginald aka Reggie, a foster care veteran and brother to Empowerment Zone founder, Deiredra Oliver was an avid supporter of the organization and often verbalized the desire for such a program to be available when he was a teenager.  Reggie admittedly knew that the availability of such a program, as The Empowerment Zone, would have made a difference in his life.  Reggie’s transition out of foster care was a difficult one which meant a life of poverty and at times homelessness.  The Reginald Oliver Memorial Scholarship was set up to honor his memory while assisting a population that Reggie felt strongly about helping which is in line with the organization’s mission.
